As a lifelong friend of Shannon Thomas, Neil Sterling has been a loyal employee of Shannon’s since 2000, when he worked for Mr. Thomas’ construction company.

Neil was the first man Shannon Thomas brought into Thomas & Sons Moving as it began growing in 2012. His mechanical knowledge and pure skill makes him an asset to our company.

Neil makes his crew feel as if they are all integral part of each job (which they are). Neil is always welcoming questions or suggestions by crew members or changes that can be made to make the task at hand safer or quicker.

This job takes more than brute strength, it takes compassion, organization, and skill to complete jobs on time and within budget. Neil is instrumental in maintaining his crew while making the client feel at ease.

Nick started as part of our labor force, but we quickly learned that as a “farm kid” Nick had skills and work ethic that would shoot him up the ranks quickly with our company.

Nick has been with Thomas & Sons Moving Company since 2014 and was a Crew Chief within 3 months of his employment.

Nick has a background in farming, working for his Grandfather in the Mitchell area since he was 8 years old. He knows how to operate equipment, run a crew, and establish working relationships with clients. Whether the client is an individual move or larger corporation such as South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Nick knows how to get the job done.

Our employee breakdown also includes what we call “Star Crew Members”. These crew members are placed with each Crew Chief because of their level of experience and sheer strength to perform excellent service.

Don’t let Tyler’s youth fool you. This exceptional 23-year-old has the brain of a scientist and the heart of a lion. His brilliance is unmatched, and his ability to problem solve is invaluable to our company.

Tyler is a 2012 Graduate of Stevens High School, where he impressed his coaches and team by being the hardest working linebacker for the Raiders, while maintaining honor roll status. He then attended USD and SDSU with an emphasis on Science and Engineering. Although he did not complete his degree, he found his future lied in the growth and development of Thomas & Sons Moving Company. We would not be where we are today without Tyler. His degree is waiting for him if he wants it, but he sees that his future lies within the company he built with his father, Shannon Thomas.

There is a reason Tyler is the Lead Crew Chief of our company. No matter how difficult the problem, how unmanageable a situation may seem, Tyler can handle it. His customer service skills are unmatched, making him our most requested Crew Leader.

As the owner of Thomas & Sons Moving Company, Shannon Thomas is the heart and brains of every aspect of our success. Shannon has an extensive background in construction and carpentry and his entrepreneur skills drove our company forward to the position we now proudly have; the largest, most successful moving company in South Dakota.

Starting small in 2012 Shannon and his eldest son, Tyler, started this company by providing loading and unloading service for clients who rented their own moving trucks. Within a year his company had grown to a 6-man crew with two trucks. Fast forward to 2017 and we know have a fleet of 12 trucks and 20+ employees.

Shannon is proud of the work he did in 2004-2006, where the construction company he owned worked to rebuild the Mississippi Gulf Coast after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

As a company, one of our priorities is giving back to the community who has made us success. We hold an annual Halloween costume giveaway every year to under privileged children in the area, purchasing new costumes for over 80 children in 2016. We also give to numerous disabled veterans, whether it is buying groceries, giving away gift cards, or providing free moves. We also give to many cancer charities, help families in need of furniture, appliances, diapers, food etc. Giving back is a key mission of this company.

We are proud to be members of NASMM, the National Association of Move Mangers and SMM-C certified to provide exceptional service and manage transition trauma while helping older adults and their families through downsizing and relocation to new homes.

Shannon has always taught our crew that the number one rule for a thriving company is to practice ethical and moral values with every client we are privileged to provide service to. Shannon whole heartedly believes that success is not owned, it is rented, and rent is due each day.
